Una exposición por el internacionalmente aclamado fotógrafo Steven Erra, y el artista Guanajuatense, director del Festival Aurora de Cine de Terror, Alejandro Montes Santamaria.
También habrá una serie de conferencias a cargo de Steven Erra donde se ilustrará a un selecto público la técnica de "pintar con luz", un método de fotografía con amplia audiencia y utilizado por algunos fotógrafos ciegos.
Durante la presentación, el Sr. Erra estará acompañado por un director de cine documental japonés, Nori Mizukami, el cual incluirá escenas de su pelicula Percepción, que se trata del la vida del Sr. Erra y su experiencia como artista. Además, vamos a presentar un cortometraje por la cineasta China, Yi Jie, cuya película sobre el Sr. Erra, Mente De Luz ha sido nominada para un premio.

An exhibition by the internationally acclaimed visually impared photographer Steven Erra, and the Guanajuatian artist and director of the Mexican Horror Film Festival (Festival Aurora), Alejandro Montes Santamaria.
There will also be a series of lectures by Steven Erra where he will illustrate to a select audience the technique of "painting with light", a method of photography with a broad following and used by some blind photographers. During the presentation, Mr Erra will be accompanied by the Japanese documentary filmmaker Nori Mizukami who will feature footage from his film Perception, which touches on Mr Erra's life and experience making art. In addition, we will present a short film by the Chinese filmaker, Jie Yi, whose film on Mr Erra, Light MInd has been nominated for an academy award.
Steven Erra:
Steven Erra es un un fotógrafo de fama mundial que padece de una enfermedad llamada retinitis pigmentosa, la cual causa que solo pueda ver por medio de un pequeño túnel de luz. Steven Erra estudio en la famosa Parsons School of Design en Nueva York, donde obtuvo una licenciatura en Bellas Artes. Durante sus últimos meses de estudio allí, aprendió que padecía de una enfermedad ocular que lo está dejando ciego lentamente. Todavía Steven puede ver a través de un tunel el cual se hace mas y mas estrecho con el pasar del tiempo.

Alejandro Montes Santamaría:
Nace en la Ciudad de México en 1978 y reside en Guanajuato capital. Estudia la Licenciatura en Diseño Gráfico, en la Universidad de Guanajuato. Posteriormente, toma diferentes cursos en la Escuela de Artes Plásticas de la misma institución, destacándose su interés por las disciplinas del grabado y el dibujo. Completo el programa de Maestria en Historia.
Alejandro cuenta con mas 15 exposiciones colectivas, 5 individuales y fue becario del programa de apoyo a jóvenes creadores por parte del Instituto Estatal de la Cultura de Guanajuato periodo 2009.

Alejandro Montes Santamaría, is born in Mexico City, 1978.
Currently resided in Guanajuato, GTO.
He obtained a Bachelors in graphic design at the University of Guanajuato. And later he took different courses in the School of Visual Arts highlighting his interest in the disciplines of printmaking and drawing.
In addition he completed the Master's program in History, also in the same institutions. He has participated in various competitions and courses which include:

He has had more than 15 collective exhibitions, and 5 solo exhibitions. In 2009 he received a scholarship from The Institute of Culture of the state of Guanajuato.
Steven Erra, Declaracion de Artista:
Steven Erra es un fotógrafo con discapacidad visual, que se origina en la ciudad de Nueva York. Estudió pintura en la Escuela Parsons de Diseño en Manhattan. Cuando todavía era estudiante en Parsons se enteró de que tenía Retinosis Pigmentosa, una enfermedad ocular genética que reducira gradualmente su vista a un estrecho túnel antes de conducirlo a la ceguera total. El Sr. Erra sufre de ceguera nocturna, pero por la luz del día el sigue viendo a través de un túnel de luz muy estrecho. Esta condición lo lleva a una constante lucha entre la luz y la oscuridad.
En 1993 se unió a una clase de fotografía por Mark Andre para personas ciegas y con discapacidad visual. El Sr.Andre eventualmente comenzó 'The Seeing with Photography Collective', una colectiva compuesta de ciegos, individuos que ven, y artistas con discapacidad visual. Mark Andres enseñó al Sr. Erra y a la colectiva la técnica de "pintura con luz". Steven Erra Artist Statement:
Steven Erra is a visually impaired photographer who originates in New York City. He studied painting at the Parsons School of design in Manhattan. While still an undergraduate at Parsons he learned he had Retinitis Pigmentosa, a genetic eye disease that would gradually reduce his sight to a narrow tunnel before leading to total blindness. Mr Erra suffers from night blindness, but in the daylight he still sees through an extremely narrow tunnel of light. This condition leads him to a constant struggle between light and dark.
In 1993 he joined a photography class for the blind and visually impaired taught by Mark Andre. Mr Andre eventually started The Seeing with Photography Collective which consisted of blind, sighted, and visually impaired artists. Mark Andres taught Mr Erra and the collective the technique of "light painting". Works of the collective have been exhibited around the world, and published in several books, and articles in publications like The New York Times, Esquire, Geo Magazine, and many others.
The work shown at The Foro Cultural 81, spans the years from 1997 to 2014. Many of the images were made while working with the Seeing With Photography Collective, others were made independently. All the images exhibited were made and conceived by Mr Erra.
A few years ago Mr Erra began using a laser pointer for illuminating many of his subjects as one of his tools. The sharp lines made with a laser pointer differ from the usual flashlight, since they make scratchy, pencil - like lines. This adds to the graphic diversity contained within the frame. Using a laser pointer, Mr Erra can carefully follow the touched contours of what is before the camera lens, making small dots, or cross - hatched lines, like an etching.
Most recently, Mr Errra has been making a series of light paintings called "The
Sunstone Series", three of which are on display in the current exhibition. A sunstone is a cut crystal of calcite, that ancient navigators used at sea when the sun was hidden by thick clouds.
