Jack Dunning nació en los EEUU en 1944. En la Universidad, estudió la psicología y el arte con énfasis en cerámica y diseño. A la edad de 24, él y su familia joven se mudaron a Canadá, en busca de una cultura menos belicosa, y para seguir estudios de posgrado en la psicología, lo que condujo a una carrera académica en la Universidad de Algoma en Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.
Entre enseñar en la universidad y dirigir, en colaboración con su esposa Paula, una vaquería, tenía poco tiempo para expresar su lado artístico, pero seguía con la fotografía como pasatiempo y nunca perdió el deseo de volver a sus intereses artísticos.
En 1996, acercándose a la jubilación, regresó de nuevo a la cerámica, transformándose en ceramista, trabajando más o menos a tiempo completo cuando de hecho se jubiló en 2006. No obstante, casi nunca se alejaba mucho de casa sin su cámara Actualmente exhibe y vende la cerámica en exposiciones de artesanía y en varias galerías de Ontario. Y en los últimos años ha exhibido y vendido sus fotografías junto con su trabajo de cerámica.
Para el fotógrafo, la orilla oriental del Lago Superior, a poca distancia de la casa de Jack, ofrece un paisaje increíble y detalles fascinantes de la naturaleza lacustre. Es el país que inspiró al famoso Grupo de los Siete de Canadá. Jack se deleita en el contraste entre esa naturaleza salvaje y los coloridos detalles de Guanajuato, donde pasa su invierno. En ambos lugares, su ávido interés en textura, composición y color, informado por su experiencia con cerámica, guía su ojo a relaciones y detalles de su ambiente.

Esta exposición, Detalles no Percibidos, narra unos pocos de sus momentos “¡me encanta!” en las calles y callejones de Guanajuato.
Todas las ganancias beneficiarán Brillantes Caminantes para becas apoyando a estudiantes universitarios con insuficientes recursos.

Jack Dunning was born in the United States in 1944. As an undergraduate, he studied Psychology and Art, with an emphasis on ceramics and design. At the age of 24, he and his young family moved to Canada in search of a less war-oriented culture, and to pursue graduate studies in Psychology, which led to an academic career at Algoma University in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.
Between teaching and running a beef farm with his wife Paula, he had little time to express his artistic side, but he continued with photography as a hobby and never lost his desire to return to his artistic interests.
In 1996, with retirement approaching, he took up pottery once more, morphing into a more-or-less full-time potter by the time he actually retired in 2006—but never venturing far from home without a camera in tow. He displays and sells pottery at craft shows and at a number of galleries throughout Ontario, and in the last five years has begun to display and sell his photographs along with his ceramic work.
For the photographer, the eastern shore of Lake Superior, just a short drive from Jack’s home, offers amazing landscape and fascinating details of the wilderness and lakeshore. This is the country that inspired Canada’s famous Group of Seven. Jack revels in the contrast between that wilderness and the colourful details of Guanajuato, where he spends his winter. In both places, his avid interest in texture, pattern and colour leads his eye to relationships and details in his environment.

The present show, Detalles no Percibidos, chronicles a few of his “I love that” moments from the streets and alleys of Guanajuato.
All proceeds will go to Brillantes Caminantes to provide university scholarships supporting students lacking the the necessary resources.
